Eliminating Program Overlaps Could Save Billions, GAO Finds

In a landmark report, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) identified hundreds of federal programs that overlap unnecessarily. According to the findings, every major federal department and agency has at least one program that overlaps with another—resulting in duplicative efforts that could potentially represent billions of dollars in unnecessary spending.
