2010 Census: Lessons Learned

A year after the completion of the 2010 Census, key lessons have emerged that may shape the next effort, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported in an April 6 testimony before the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government information, Federal Services, and International Security. GAO’s findings highlight universal project management processes that can be applied to federal programs of any scale.

Cloud Computing Audit Reveals PM Weaknesses

Cloud computing has emerged as a key strategy in reducing federal IT acquisition and modernization costs, with the Office of Management and Budget requiring each federal agency to identify at least three cloud computing opportunities within its organization. As the findings of a recent Department of Energy (DOE) Inspector General audit (OAS-RA-L-11-06) demonstrate, federal agencies can reap significant benefits from cloud computing—but strong attention must be paid to project management.
