IT Projects to Face OMB Reviews

Financial systems modernizations projects are not the only projects under OMB’s scrutiny (see "Facing Failing Projects, OMB Takes Drastic Steps"). Then-OMB Director Peter Orszag announced that the Federal Chief Information Officer will begin detailed reviews of the most costly IT projects across the federal government (OMB Memo M-10-25). Those projects found to be experiencing major cost overruns or schedule delays will be required to present improvement plans. OMB has warned that any projects that cannot be salvaged will face limited funding under the Fiscal Year 2012 agency budgets.
